Wudu Concession (Masah over the Khuffs)
Islam has granted ease to believers by permitting masah (wiping) over qualifying khuffs instead of washing the feet during wudu.
Conditions:
- The khuffs must be put on after completing a full wudu, including washing the feet.
- They should cover the feet including the ankles.
- They should remain on while performing masah.
Duration:
- 24 hours for a resident.
- 72 hours for a traveller.
- The time begins from the first nullification of wudu after the khuffs are worn.
The concession ends if:
- The khuffs are removed.
- Ghusl (major ritual purification) becomes obligatory.
Evidence from the Sunnah
“The Prophet ﷺ used to wipe over the khuffs."
— Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim»
Ali ibn Abi Talib reported:
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ fixed the period of wiping over the khuffs as three days and three nights for the traveller, and one day and one night for the resident."
— Sahih Muslim»
